Permafrost wins hat trick of Red Dot Awards!

Permafrost wins hat trick of Red Dot Awards!

The jury of the Red Dot: Product Design Award 2021 has honoured Permafrost with a total of 3 separate Red Dot Design Awards.

Working in close tandem with designer Hans Bleken Rud from Norwegian lighting manufacturer Glamox, Permafrost has developed two comprehensive product families for the Luxo brand, both of which have received a Red Dot Design Award.

Luxo Motus is a family of task lights. At the core of the collection is a highly advanced desk light, featuring limitless movement and Luxo’s unique asymmetric light output.

The Luxo Nordic Collection is a series of decorative, yet highly efficient pendants. The Nordic Collection is grouped into three distinct product families, covering a wide range of lighting needs from directed light to scattered public light.

Permafrost has also been awarded a Red Dot Design Award for the Kaos Endeløs wall bars, developed for up-and-coming baby gear brand Kaos.

KAOS Endeløs is a modular wall bar system for children. The basic configuration is a vertical climbing wall, while a collection of accessories expands the functionality of the system, and extends its life span.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the world’s largest and most recognized product design competitions. This year’s edition has received more than 7800 entries from 70 countries.

A team of designers from Permafrost and engineers from Stokke, led by Stokke design manager Anders August Kittilsen, has been honoured with the Red Dot: Best of the Best award for the Stokke® Clikk™ High Chair. This year’s Red Dot: Best of the Best award completes a hat trick for the combined efforts of Permafrost and Stokke: The Stokke® Steps™ seating system (2015) and the Stokke® Trailz™ stroller (previously Stokke® Crusi™, 2014) have also been named Red Dot: Best of the Best.

For Permafrost, this year’s award is the fourth Red Dot: Best of the Best distinction, as Permafrost also has been involved with the design of the Cisco Spark Board which was named Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2017. Red Dot: Best of the Best – Cisco and Permafrost win international design award

Red Dot: Best of the Best – Cisco and Permafrost win international design award

The Cisco Spark Board has been honoured with the Red Dot: Best of the Best 2017 award.  The Red Dot design award is the world’s largest and most recognized product design competition, and the Red Dot: Best of the Best is their highest distinction.

Developed to be a powerful and radically new tool for meetings and collaborations, the Cisco Spark Board is a simple, all-in-one device that works as a digital whiteboard, a wireless presentation screen, and a video-conferencing system. As part of the industrial design team, Permafrost have designed the floor stands and the wall stands, offering the options of having the display free-standing or leaning against the wall.

This year’s award marks the third Red Dot: Best of the Best win in 4 years for Permafrost. Together with Norwegian baby brand Stokke, Permafrost received consecutive Red Dot: Best of the Best awards for the Stokke Crusi baby stroller in 2014 and the Stokke Steps children’s seating system in 2015.

Permafrost designs new colors and patterns for the Stokke Steps seating system

Permafrost designs new colors and patterns for the Stokke Steps seating system

Norwegian baby brand Stokke has launched new colors and customization for their Stokke Steps modular seating system. The new range of color options and patterns has been developed together with Permafrost, and comprises a versatile and contemporary palette designed to fit in anywhere.

New color options include a sophisticated black chair seat, baby set and tray, a cute pink baby set, fabrics in pink and a custom-made grey cloud pattern, as well as legs in whitewash, grey, natural or black. The possibilities for customization are virtually endless, ranging from a sleek, monochrome chair in all black to a playful pink, white and whitewash combination.

The highly adaptable and user-friendly Stokke Steps seating system was designed by Permafrost in collaboration with the Stokke design team and launched in 2014. A comprehensive, user-centric design process resulted in a modular chair that can grow with the child from birth throughout childhood, integrating a strong focus on ergonomics and functionality with a clean and modern look.

For their combined efforts in designing the Stokke Steps seating system, Permafrost and Stokke were awarded the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best award in 2015.

Best of the Best: Stokke Crusi wins prominent international design award

Best of the Best: Stokke Crusi wins prominent international design award

The Bazooka Goal has been honoured with a red dot design award! This award is one of the world’s largest and most commonly recognised design competitions, so we’d like to think we’re in good company.

The Bazooka Goal is the world’s most compact solid frame folding goal. Carrying, handling and assembling is made easy through a lightweight telescopic design. Its patented construction includes a pair of heavy-duty coil springs, allowing the goal to flex with seemingly careless ease when the ball hits the crossbar.

Our involvement in the projects extends from designing and engineering the iconic product itself to sorting out the logo and visual identity.

Wooden toys at the Louisiana

Wooden toys at the Louisiana

Is there a Nordic identity? Does The Nordic Way exist? Can one, despite the tendency of globalization to erase national and cultural differences, still understand identity as something associated with particular places? And if that is the case, how has the Nordic identity developed alongside the development of the rest of the world?

These are some of the questions posed by the New Nordic – Architecture and Identity exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

Permafrost has been asked to create one of 30 small ‘Nordic dioramas’ in the exhibition, reflecting on Nordic identity in relation to our own cultural profession. Our contribution is a set of wooden toys depicting modern day industrial icons, while at the same time honouring traditional Nordic craftsmanship. The exhibition is open until October 21st, so anyone in or around Copenhagen could do worse than checking it out.

New bottle celebrating Scandinavian summer

New bottle celebrating Scandinavian summer

Our latest design for AQ New Norwegian Aquavit is called SQ Sommeraquavit.

The product itself is a smooth and mellow aquavit matured in white wine casks, and the bottle is inspired by the equally peaceful and bright Scandinavian summer nights. The design hints at a modern, innovative approach to aquavit-making, while at the same time maintaining an uncompromising quest for quality.

Our ongoing relationship with the manufacturer has included designing the entire brand identity for AQ New Norwegian Aquavit, as well as developing the branding strategy and bottle designs for their entire range of spirits.
